Up to RM500: STR Phase 4 Applications Are Open, Closing 30 September

STR (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah) Phase 4 is now open for new applications and appeals, and the deadline is 30 September. If you have never applied, or you were rejected last time, this round is still open to you.

Below, the official process is broken into 5 steps, from opening the site to hitting submit. You can do it all on your phone. If you have already applied, how to check your status and how to appeal are further down.

What STR is: who qualifies, and how much this round pays

STR is a government cash aid payment, tiered by household income and category, paid straight into your bank account. If you don't have an account, you can collect the cash at BSN. The tiers for Phase 4 are as follows:

Across all phases, the yearly total goes up to RM2,200. Amounts and eligibility follow LHDN's official announcements.

Two groups who shouldn't miss this

• Never applied before — go through “Permohonan Baharu” (new application)

• Applied and were rejected — go through “Rayuan” (appeal), don't just give up

Step by step: applying in 5 steps

The whole thing is done on the official site. No app to download, no queuing. Before you start, have your MyKad, proof of income (payslip) and bank account details ready so you can finish it in one sitting.

Step 1: Go to the official STR website

Look for the official address ending in hasil.gov.my, and don't click unfamiliar links on social media. Fake sites go phishing every year around this time. The application page:

Step 2: Click “Permohonan Baharu”

Find and click “Permohonan Baharu” (new application) on the homepage.

Step 3: Choose how to apply

• If you have MyDigital ID — click “Permohonan Baharu dengan MyDigital ID”. Your details are filled in automatically, so it is faster

• If you don't — click “Ya, Teruskan” and fill in the form as normal

Step 4: Fill in your details and upload documents

Work through personal details, income details and bank account details in order, and upload the documents required.

Step 5: Press “Hantar” to submit

After submitting, it is worth registering a MySTR account while you are there, so you don't have to re-enter everything each time you check your status.

Go to “Semakan Status” on the official site and key in your MyKad number to see your application progress and past payment records.

How to appeal if you were rejected

Log in to your STR account and submit through the “Rayuan” (appeal) option. Appeals also close on 30 September, and the more complete your documents (proof of income, household member details), the better your chances.

Common questions

Do I need a bank account to receive STR?

Not necessarily, but it helps. The payment goes into a bank account by default. Without one, you can collect cash over the counter at a BSN branch. Bring your MyKad, and expect to queue.

Our household income is exactly RM2,600. Do we still get anything?

Yes. That falls in the RM2,501 – RM5,000 tier, which pays RM250. Don't assume you're out of it just because you are above RM2,500.

When will STR Phase 4 be paid out?

The payment date follows LHDN's official announcement. Once you have submitted, check MySTR from time to time.

I'm already an STR recipient. Do I need to apply again?

Existing recipients generally don't need to reapply. But if anything has changed (new bank account, household members added or removed), remember to update it in your account. LHDN's official guidance applies.

Last thing: get these two done before 30 September

If you haven't applied, apply now; if you were rejected, appeal now. Aid like this doesn't come looking for you, and plenty of people who qualify miss out simply because they didn't know it had opened.

Pass this on to the older folks at home while you're at it. The senior citizen tier (RM150) is exactly the one most often missed.
